The story follows Emma Woodhouse, a wealthy, charming, and headstrong young woman living in the village of Highbury. Confident in her matchmaking abilities, Emma meddles in the romantic lives of those around her—particularly her friend Harriet Smith, a sweet but impressionable girl of lower social standing.
Despite her good intentions, Emma's efforts often lead to misunderstandings and unintended consequences. Through a series of romantic misadventures and self-reflection, Emma begins to see the flaws in her judgments. Eventually, she realizes her own feelings for Mr. Knightley, a close family friend and the only one who openly challenges her opinions.
